2011-2012 PROFILE
MISSION STATEMENT
Our mission is to educate and develop the whole person – mind, body, and spirit. The students will be educated to become leaders with inquiring minds developed through critical thinking, writing, reasoning, investigating, problem solving and collaborative experiences.
SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY
Narmer American College (NAC) is a Nursery-Grade 12 international college preparatory school with English as the language of instruction. NAC serves a community of predominately Egyptian and Middle Eastern families seeking an American primary and/or secondary curriculum of education. Our families represent the professional segment of Egyptian society plus expatriate families who are in Egypt working for various embassies and private business enterprises.
CAMPUS
NAC is located on a 23,000 square meter campus in New Cairo City consisting of three floors with 56 classrooms, outdoor athletic fields and track, 1000 m² indoor sports courts, an indoor gymnasium, an almost 800 m² swimming pool, and an indoor cafeteria. The campus also includes an indoor auditorium with a capacity of 500 seats, music and art rooms, science and computer labs, a library and a clinic.
GOALS
As NAC experiences steady growth, The Board of Directors is encouraging the continued development of a diverse community of parents, students and teachers who share a love of learning and who strive for excellence in all they do. One of the Board’s major goals is for NAC to prepare students for lives of leadership and citizenship, including service to their communities. Another goal is to nurture strength of character, which will enable students to accept the responsibilities of adulthood.
CURRICULUM
The underpinning of the NAC educational programming is the American system of education. Our curriculum is based on the Advanced Placement (AP) Program, which is a curriculum in the U.S. sponsored by the College Board that offers standardized, college-level, courses to grade 11 and 12 students that are much more rigorous than the regular course offerings. Following the College Board Standards for College Success (CBSCS) outlines a clear and consistent path towards AP and college readiness. Students are consistently being challenged to expand their knowledge and skills and prepare for higher intellectual engagement. The culminating achievement for our graduating students is the completion of requirements and credits leading toward an American high school diploma. Qualified students may earn an additional AP International Diploma (APID) by passing in five AP exams.
ACTIVITIES
NAC recognizes that student involvement beyond the classroom is important for intellectual, physical, and social development. Therefore, an expansive after- school student development program has been organized. The emphasis throughout the spectrum of activities is on competence, character, leadership, and citizenship. Our activities program offers a wide variety of options, ranging from Model United Nations, art, theater, dance, and music to community service and team sports.
NAC FACULTY
There are 70 faculty members. Twelve of our faculty hold a Master’s Degree, three have earned a Doctorate Degree, two are in the process of earning a Doctorate, and one holds a medical degree. Additionally, there are 7 assistant teachers. All faculty members are carefully selected for employment at NAC based upon their professional proficiency and experience plus their commitment to education.

TESTING INFORMATION
IOWA standardized achievement tests are administered to all NAC students in K-12 to measure student performances, weaknesses and strengths in the areas of reading, grammar, spelling, mathematics, science, social studies, and sources of information. The results provide information about students’ potential, assisting students and school advisors as they make their high school course selections and plan for college. Additionally, internal benchmark assessments are administered to students in grades 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11 to monitor their performance and progress in all subject areas at the end of each year.
Most NAC graduates take the SAT Reasoning Test (SAT I) for admission to Egyptian universities as well as to universities in the United States, Canada, Europe, and other locations. Many also take SAT Subject Tests (SAT II), either because they are required for admission consideration or because they will enhance a student’s competitiveness for acceptance into his/her chosen universities. All grade 10 students take the PSAT (Preliminary SAT) as a practice test. Students for whom English is not the first language may be required take the TOEFL or IELTS when applying to English medium universities in or out of Egypt.
